During the pandemic, while others were baking bread and learning to knit, I spent a lot of time watching Nordic Noir. For the uninitiated, Nordic noir is a storytelling genre that blends crime fiction – the scarier the better – with a deep and immersive immersion in local culture. Local politics sometimes play a role, as do environmental issues, religious cults, detectives with interesting bugs, and almost always handmade Scandinavian sweaters.
What does all this have to do with travel? This is the opinion of various Scandinavian tourist boards given the proliferation of guided tours based on some of the most popular series, particularly the internationally successful series penetrating the mainstream consciousness.
